How to Make Your Own Chai Latte with Warm Spices (No Syrups, No Shame)
Share
Forget the sugary syrup stuff from the coffee chain. Real chai? It’s bold, fragrant, a little spicy, a little sweet—and it fills your kitchen with the smell of magic. Making it at home is super easy, and it’ll ruin store-bought for you forever (you’re welcome).
What Goes In:
-
1½ cups water
-
½ cup milk (dairy or any alt-milk that froths nicely)
-
1 black tea bag (or 1 tsp loose leaf)
-
1 cinnamon stick
-
3–4 cardamom pods, crushed
-
3–4 whole cloves
-
1 small piece of fresh ginger or ¼ tsp ground
-
Optional: 1 star anise, pinch of black pepper
-
Sweetener of your choice (honey, sugar, maple)
How You Do It:
-
Toss the water, spices, and ginger into a pot. Bring it to a simmer and let it bubble for 5–7 minutes.
-
Add the tea, simmer for 2–3 more minutes.
-
Add milk and sweetener, heat just until steamy (don’t boil).
-
Strain it into your favorite mug and sip slowly.
Creamy. Spicy. Comfort in a cup.
